This cannabis strains glossary explains how strain names, cultivars, lineage, phenotype and indica, sativa or hybrid labels are used on an online menu. A name is an identifier and comparison starting point, not a complete product specification.
Cannabis strains glossary: the core terms
- Strain
- A familiar commercial term for a named cannabis line or product family. Different batches sold under one name can still vary.
- Cultivar
- A cultivated plant variety. On menus, cultivar is often used more precisely where everyday shopping language would say strain.
- Lineage
- The named parentage or breeding relationship supplied for a cultivar.
- Phenotype
- An observable expression selected from plants with related genetics. The term can help explain why related plants do not always look or smell identical.
- Batch
- A specific production or inventory group. Current product details should be checked again even when the strain name is familiar.
Indica, sativa and hybrid
These broad labels help organize a menu. Indica and sativa are familiar categories, while hybrid indicates mixed ancestry. Indica-dominant, sativa-dominant and balanced hybrid can add context when the supplier provides it.

A strain name does not replace the listing
Two products sharing a name can differ in grow details, visible structure, aroma description, THC and CBD values, grade, size, price and stock. Read the current listing rather than importing details from another store, an older order or a general strain database.
When lineage or breeder information is not supplied, mark it as unknown. Do not invent parents from a similar spelling or assume that every product using a familiar name has identical ancestry.
Use related fields to compare a named strain

Names, descriptors and marketing language
A strain name can include geographic words, flavours, colours or invented brand language. Those words are not automatically measured facts. A name containing “berry” does not prove a specific ingredient, terpene or flavour field. Use the dedicated listing fields for those claims.
Likewise, words such as reserve, premium or craft should be read in the context of Eon’s grade and sourcing fields rather than assumed from the name alone.

- Compare size, price, stock and factual fields on each product page.
- Use aroma, effect and grade links as separate browse axes.
